Mission Statement

TO ENHANCE THE QUALITY AND EFFECTIVENESS OF HEALTH CARE BY FOSTERING EXCELLENCE AND PROFESSIONALISM IN THE PRACTICE OF MEDICINE. THIS MISSION IS ACCOMPLISHED THROUGH EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS PROVIDED FOR INTERNAL MEDICINE PHYSICIANS IN GEORGIA. THE GEORGIA CHAPTER HAS BEEN ACTIVE SINCE 1974 AND NOW HAS OVER 4,000 MEMBERS, INCLUDING INTERNAL MEDICINE RESIDENTS AND MEDICAL STUDENTS. INTERNAL MEDICINE PHYSICIANS ARE SPECIALISTS WHO APPLY SCIENTIFIC KNOWLEDGE AND CLINICAL EXPERTISE TO THE DIAGNOSIS, TREATMENT, AND COMPASSIONATE CARE OF ADULTS ACROSS THE SPECTRUM FROM HEALTH TO COMPLEX ILLNESS. THE GEORGIA CHAPTER ACTIVITIES INCLUDE AN ANNUAL SCIENTIFIC SESSION AND CHAPTER MEETING, WHICH INCLUDES RESIDENT COMPETITIONS, MEDICAL STUDENT COMPETITIONS, SCIENTIFIC LECTURES, AND COMMITTEE MEETINGS. ADDITIONALLY, THE CHAPTER ENGAGES IN ADVOCACY MEETINGS IN THE STATE AND ON CAPITOL HILL.
