Mission Statement

THE ORGANIZATION IS A COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER-BASED PROGRAM DESIGNED TO PROVIDE STRUGGLING READERS AND THEIR FAMILIES WITH ACCESS TO TRAINED TUTORS WHO DONATE TIME ON A REGULAR BASIS. THE FOCUS OF THESE VOLUNTEER TUTORS IS CHILDREN WHO NEED TO IMPROVE BASIC LITERACY LANGUAGE SKILLS TO PROFICIENTLY READ AT GRADE LEVEL. KEY COMPONENTS OF THE AR KIDS READ TUTOR PROGRAM ARE: STUDENT RELATIONSHIP-BASED; LOW TUTOR-TO-STUDENT RATIO, MENTOR COMMITMENT (FOR AT LEAST ONE SEMESTER), READING LEVEL-BASED CURRICULUM, AND EFFECTIVE PROGRAM COORDINATION, TUTOR TRAINING, AND SUPPORT. THE ORGANIZATION ALSO WORKS TO BUILD PARTNERSHIPS WITH AGENCIES AND ORGANIZATIONS TO INCREASE AWARENESS OF CHILDREN'S LITERACY ISSUES, PROMOTE THE AVAILABILITY OF READING SUPPORT SERVICES, AND REACH POTENTIAL STUDENTS AND VOLUNTEER TUTORS. AR KIDS READ WORKS TO RECRUIT, TRAIN AND PROVIDE TUTORS TO PARTICIPATING SCHOOL DISTRICTS, NON-PROFITS, CHURCHES AND OTHER AGENCIES TO HELP CHILDREN READ AT GRADE LEVEL.
