'CAMP SIGMA" WAS FOUNDED IN THE FALL OF 1979 AS A WESTERN REGIONAL PROGRAM OF PHI BETA SIGMA FRATERNITY, INCORPORATED, AS A MECHANISM TO PROVIDE DISADVANTAGED BOYS AND GIRLS WITH A WILDERNESS EXPERIENCE. ARTS, CRAFTS, GAMES, SWIMMING AND CAMPFIRE SONGS WERE INTEGRAL PARTS OF THIS CAMPING EXPERIENCE. THE CURRENT AIM OF THE CAMP IS TO DEVELOP LEADERSHIP SKILLS AND SUCCESS INITIATIVE IN THE MINDS OF YOUNG BLACK MEN, WHICH IS MORE VIABLE GOAL WITH MORE MEASURABLE RESULTS AND OF GREATER COMMUNITY NEED.
