STATES USE THE NMLS TO LICENSE AND REGISTER FINANCIAL SERVICE PROVIDERS AND ITS SUPERVISORY COMPONENT, THE STATE EXAMINATION SYSTEM (SES) TO HARMONIZE AND AUTOMATE SUPERVISORY PROCESSES, STREAMLINING EXAMINATIONS AND IMPROVING OVERSIGHT OF NONBANK FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS.
