GCCBS provides shelter care for 150 avian exotics non-native birds This includes parakeets finches lovebirds conures cockatiels parrots macaws cockatoos These birds are surrendered to us by families animal control police fire departments found outside Each bird receives infectious disease testing blood test base lines a clean cage toys a diet including fresh fruit veggies high quality seed and pellets and social interaction to meet their needs We currently have 150 birds within the shelter we are at capacity Wea adopt 75 to 90 birds a year and take in 80 to 100 birds surrenders For every bird taken in we are unable to accept 4 There are over one million birds in shelters across the US We follow the Avian Welfare Coalition guidelines for adoption Adoption of birds is rigorous than cat or dog adoptions
