Mission Statement

Founded in 2013, GCV is a Minneapolis-based mixed-media, storytelling nonprofit that shares immigrant and refugee narratives in order to foster an understanding of the immigrant experience. Our storytelling mediums (books, video, podcast, exhibits) feature authentic, first-person accounts told BY the immigrants, acting as a counterweight to the negative rhetoric and prevailing stereotypes about the current wave of immigrants. By creating empathy for the immigrant experience, we generate a breakthrough in how immigrants are perceived and integrated, reducing bias and challenging the unjust norms that arise from systemic discrimination. Stories not only empower the teller, whose life experiences and unique contributions become valuable and validated through sharing, but they also educate the broader public and help us see how we all share the experience of being human.
