TO EDUCATE THE PUBLIC AND CANCER PATIENTS, IN PARTICULAR, ABOUT THE MEDICAL TREATMENT OPTIONS FOR PATIENTS WITH TREATABLE CANCERS, AND ABOUT NON-MEDICAL ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE FOR PATIENTS WITH TREATABLE CANCERS, AND TO TAKE ALL ACTIONS NECESSARY, APPROPRIATE, OR DESIRABLE TO ACHIEVE THESE SPECIFIC PURPOSES. TO PROVIDE A CANCER PATIENT MENTOR PROGRAM THAT WILL PAIR VETERAN CANCER PATIENTS WITH NEWLY DIAGNOSED CANCER PATIENTS. THROUGH THIS PROGRAM VETERAN PATIENTS WILL BE IDENTIFIED, SCREENED AND TRAINED TO PROVIDE ADVICE, ENCOURAGEMENT AND MORAL SUPPORT TO NEWLY DIAGNOSED PATIENTS. THIS MENTOR-PATIENT RELATIONSHIP WILL BE DESIGNED TO LAST THROUGH A PATIENT'S COURSE OF TREATMENT.
