Mission Statement

The mission of the Houston Council of the Blind ("HCB") is to improve the independence, security, equality of opportunity, and quality of life for all persons who are blind or visually impaired. The Houston Council of the Blind offers scholarships to legally blind and blind people as described by Social Security legal definition of blindness. The student or students chosen must be legally blind and must apply stating why and how they plan on furthering their education to be a contributing member of society. Organizations receiving grants from Houston Council of the Blind do, through purchase of equipment, aid the blind and legally blind citizens of Texas to read standard size print. Cash donations are made to organizations that are currently providing service to blind or legally blind individuals.
