IN 1995, THE INSTITUTE FOR MUSIC AND NEUROLOGICAL FUNCTION (IMNF) WAS CREATED WITH DR. OLIVER SACK'S HELP TO SPARK GREATER COLLABORATIONS AMONG MUSIC THERAPISTS AND NEUROSCIENTISTS AROUND THE WORLD. THE IMNF IS THE ONLY ONE OF ITS KIND IN THE UNITED STATES. IT IS EXPANDING THERAPEUTIC MODALITIES FOR TREATING PATIENTS WITH STROKES AND OTHER NEUROLOGICAL CONDITIONS. IMNF USES MUSIC THERAPY TO ASSIST THOSE WITH MEMORY DEFICITS, MOTOR REHABILITATION NEEDS, AND SPEECH THERAPY. IT IS ALSO A MAJOR TRAINING CENTER FOR MUSIC THERAPISTS AND A RESOURCE FOR NEW COLLABORATIONS IN MUSIC-BRAIN RESEARCH.
