Mission Statement

La Senora engages iin cultural heritage research and education. From 1670s Alta California exploration, into the Mexican Rancho Era we preserve California's sole extant rancho era family Cemetery. In the 1920s in the historic Mojica Hacienda, we bring the creativity of the noted architect who designed the hacienda and the Mexican Opera Star who built it, leaving the acoustically "perfect" Music Salon in which we provide concerts. Throughout the 1930s -40s the hacienda was occupied in a uniquely California endeavor, the Golden Age of Movies. These owners garnered over 30 academy award nominations for films whose names and stars are still, 75 years later, household words, They brought their friends, the equally famous writers, actors, photographers, scientists, philosphers home to the hacienda. Their stories of this site are explored with educational programming delivered via lectures, screenings, and symposiums.
