Mission Statement

Lavender Rights Project (LRP) protects Black life by elevating the power, autonomy, and leadership of the Black trans and gender diverse community through intersectional legal and social services. We are fighting for the right to exist without fear of state and interpersonal violence, to have control over our own bodies, and to be able to live full, long, and joyful lives. We use Black feminism to guide us as we tackle our three areas of impact-economic justice, housing justice, and gender-based violence prevention through movement building. In doing this, we place the most vulnerable members of our community-namely Black trans girls, women, femmes-at the center in order to find solutions that will bring forward collective liberation for all marginalized communities. Based in Seattle, LRP works locally and throughout the state but also has national impact through our extensive partnerships and coalitions.
