THE LITTLE RIVER WETLANDS PROJECT (LRWP) IS A NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION WORKING TO RESTORE AND PROTECT WETLANDS IN THE HISTORIC LITTLE RIVER VALLEY, A KEY TRIBUTARY OF THE WABASH RIVER IN NORTHEASTERN INDIANA. THIS ONCE-VAST WETLAND SYSTEM, KNOWN HISTORICALLY AS THE GREAT MARSH, WAS DRAINED IN THE 1890S. TODAY, LRWP HAS OVER 1,300 ACRES OF NATURAL AND RESTORED HABITATS-INCLUDING WETLANDS, FORESTED WETLANDS, PRAIRIES, AND SEDGE MEADOWS-ACROSS SIX NATURE PRESERVES IN ALLEN AND HUNTINGTON COUNTIES. THE LARGEST OF THESE PRESERVES IS EAGLE MARSH, ONE OF THE NATION'S LARGEST INLAND URBAN WETLANDS. LRWP ALSO HOLDS 140 ACRES UNDER CONSERVATION EASEMENT AND WORKS CLOSELY WITH LANDOWNERS TO PROMOTE LONG-TERM HABITAT PROTECTION. LRWP'S MISSION COMBINES ECOLOGICAL RESTORATION WITH PUBLIC EDUCATION AND OUTREACH, FOSTERING A COMMUNITY OF ENGAGED STEWARDS. THE ORGANIZATION'S VISION IS TO ESTABLISH A CONNECTED NETWORK OF WETLANDS THAT PROVIDE CLEANER WATER, IMPROVED FLOOD CONTROL, VITAL WILDLIFE HABITAT,
