The benefits of arts education is so well studied and documented that arts programming is mandated by the California education code, yet 88% of CA public schools are not offering arts education. The principles of social-emotional learning are an integral part of education. It is the process through which all young people and adults acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions. Multiple studies all concur that these are the exact attributes which can be developed through engaging with dance. The Palm Springs Dance Project exists to energize positive social change and influence the development of underserved youth through dance performance, education and community engagement projects.
