PROJECT HEALTHY COMMUNITY (PHC) IS A HEALTH AND WELLNESS NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION WITH THE MISSION OF PROMOTING THE WELL-BEING OF THE DETROIT COMMUNITY BY PROVIDING SCHOOL (AND COMMUNITY) BASED NUTRITION, FITNESS, AND MENTAL HEALTH EDUCATION AND SERVICES FOR DETROIT KINDERGARTENERS THROUGH SENIORS. EXAMPLES OF PROGRAMMING ARE: - PHC'S MOBILE PANTRY IS A COLLABORATION WITH GLEANERS COMMUNITY FOOD BANK AND FORGOTTEN HARVEST. THE PROGRAM PROVIDES APPROXIMATELY 100 WORTH OF GROCERIES TO 600 FAMILIES MONTHLY AND HAS BEEN A STAPLE OF SUPPORT IN THE NORTHWEST DETROIT COMMUNITY. VOLUNTEERS FROM THE COMMUNITY AS WELL AS CORPORATE VOLUNTEERS HAVE HELPED TO SUSTAIN THE PROGRAM THROUGH THE YEARS. - THE PE-NUT AND LINKING LESSONS PROGRAMS, FUNDED THROUGH THE MICHIGAN FITNESS FOUNDATION, INCORPORATE PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AND NUTRITIONAL EDUCATION INTO THEIR IN-CLASS INTERVENTIONS, ACTIVELY ENGAGING STUDENTS IN THEIR HEALTH OVER THE 5-8 WEEK-LONG PROGRAM.
