Mission Statement
The Reef Check Foundation is dedicated to the conservation of coral and rocky-reef ecosystems around the world. Our mission is to empower communities at the local level to protect and restore reefs worldwide through grassroots research, conservation, and education efforts. With headquarters in Southern California and locally run chapters all over the world, Reef Check has built a global network of more than 10,000 trained volunteers who monitor reefs in more than 40 countries and territories, resulting in the most extensive standardized, long-term monitoring dataset in the world. One of our key achievements is our role in the establishment and management of marine protected areas (MPAs) in the Philippines, Indonesia, Brunei, and Dominican Republic. These MPAs play a crucial role in preserving the biodiversity and health of coral reef ecosystems. Our grassroots approach focuses on training volunteer citizen scientists who collect scientific data and engage in conservation activities rel
