Mission Statement

Revisionary Arts (RA) is a 501(3) nonprofit that strives to construct spaces where participants feel empowered to creatively explore their human vulnerabilities through poetry. More specifically, our approach involves the reading of poetry - and the recognition of its intersection with our lives - as well the exploration of the past (and present) through discussion, reflection, and expression. Despite being a lesser-known complementary therapy, numerous studies have supported its efficacy, including the ways in which poetry helps us takes ownership of our narratives and loosens our subconscious resistance to traumatic or painful events (thus allowing us to reflect more deeply on them). The act of sharing of our suffering through poetry has also been shown to increase resilience and hope while decreasing stress and depressive symptoms.
