Mission Statement

The Long Now Foundation is a globally-recognized champion of long-term thinking and responsibility, operating within the context of the next and last 10,000 years a timespan we call the long now. Founded as a nonprofit cultural institution in 01996 by Stewart Brand, Brian Eno, and Danny Hillis, Long Now launched with The Clock of the Long Now, a mythic, mechanical monument built to keep time for 10,000 years from deep inside a mountain. Our work has expanded to include our Long Now Talks lecture series, Long Now Ideas online publication, Pace Layers print journal, and bold public projects that ignite imagination, all based out of The Interval at Long Now our award-winning bar, caf, exhibit space, and event venue in San Francisco.
