Mission Statement

The West Highland Historical Foundation is a non-profit corporation whose definitive purpose is to restore and reform the historical African American West Highland High School located in Fayette, AL. Our goal is to transform what is now a diminished and overlooked historical facility, into a community wide recreational center, by raising funds and by applying for grants. By restoring the West Highland High School into a county-wide recreational center, we can supply Fayette County with a variety of outlets that serve a greater purpose. Providing programs that will deter our community from turning to crime and drugs, elevated teenage pregnancy rates, unemployment, and ultimately providing relief for the poor and under-privileged. The West Highland High School is in one of the poorest areas in the county. We plan to incorporate a museum that will focus on the educational struggles of African Americans and promote a tourist attraction. We also plan to offer amateur sports activities.
